I was sitting in Sid Caesar’s backyard on July 16, 1986, at his home in Trousdale Estates in Beverly Hills. He was expounding on growing up in Yonkers where he first got into show business. His immigrant father Max ran a diner. His mom and three brothers all helped out, but not little Caesar. His dad came home one day and announced, “Sidney, you’re going to play saxophone.” Why the saxophone? “Because a customer left one here.”
