Joel Grey performed on the Kraft All-Star Salute to Ford’s Theatre which was taped on June 7, 1986, at the Washington D.C. landmark which reopened in 1968. As a television columnist for the New York Post, I attended as a guest of CBS to help promote the telecast on June 25. Richard Chamberlain and Jaclyn Smith were the hosts of the variety show which featured Jaclyn Smith, Freddie Roman, Sandy Duncan, Tommy Tune, Victor Borge plus an appearance by President Ronald Reagan and Nancy Reagan. (Chamberlain returned from a lunch with a Washington Post columnist and shuddered: “It was such a poisonous interview. All she wanted to know is who I was going with and what drugs I was taking.”)
