At the first annual Celebrity Croquet Tournament, sponsored by the New York Croquet Club, Debbie Reynolds competed against club pros on Sept. 30, 1973, in Central Park. Also playing were Kevin McCarthy, Ben Grauer, Earl Wilson, and William Vanden Heuvel. Actually Debbie came just to practice and “fool around.” She filled in for son Todd Fisher, 15, who didn’t show up due to a previous engagement. “I haven’t played croquet in 21 years,” Debbie said. “The last time I played was with Sam Goldwyn.”
