Burt Bacharach
For Father’s Day on June 16, 1971, Mark Cross, the quality leather goods firm, invited celebrity dads to post special wishes to be displayed in the windows of its Fifth Avenue store. The handwritten messages and candid blowups of fathers and their children came from Leonard Bernstein, Walter Cronkite, Joe Frazier and David Susskind among others. The common theme of all was peace. Syndicated columnist Bert Bacharach (Mark Bertram Bacharach) and wife Irma came with their son Burt whose message was unique: “Hopefully my daughter will feel about me that which I feel about my Dad.” Burt had four wives. His second, Angie Dickinson, lasted from 1965 to 1980. Their daughter Nikki was 40 when she committed suicide in 2007.
