Judy Carne
She shot to fame overnight as the “Sock it to me” girl on the zany NBC comedy, Rowan & Martin’s Laugh-In, 1968-73. After a singing performance at the glitzy Persian Room of New York’s Plaza Hotel on January 22, 1971, she invited me to take pictures in her suite. The bouncy auburn-haired pixie-like (5’3) actress, who was born Joyce Audrey Botterill in Northampton, England, endured brief failed marriages with Burt Reynolds and producer Robert Bergmann, enjoyed one-night stands with Steve McQueen and Warren Beatty, and experienced a bisexual encounter. After suffering from drug addiction and surviving a near-fatal auto accident (resulting in a broken neck, the ultimate sock-it-to-me), she returned to Northampton where she succumbed to pneumonia on September 3, 2015, at age 76.
