So when her next bestseller, The Love Machine, came out in 1969, I presented myself at her opulent apartment on Central Park South on May 11 to shoot a day in the life of Jacqueline Susann. The maid ushered me right into Jackie’s bedroom. There she was in bed with the Sunday New York Times and her husband, Irving Mansfield, and Josephine. Jackie and I spent the day photographing in Central Park and Times Square. But the photo Time Magazine chose to illustrate its review of The Love Machine was the first shot I made — Jackie in bed with Josephine.
