Joan Fontaine (right) joins Carol Lynley, one of the stars of The Poseidon Adventure, at the film’s world premiere on Dec. 12, 1972, at the National Theatre, the first new motion picture house on Broadway in 36 years. The film utilizes the combined talent of more Academy Award winners (15) than any other single film to date. Shelley Winters, Red Buttons, Stella Stevens, Sylvia Miles, Celeste Holm, Jacqueline Susann, and Claire Bloom were also there.
