Zero Mostel, Carroll O’Connor

Zero Mostel, starring in Ulysses in Nighttown at the Winter Garden on Broadway, entertains guests in his dressing room, including Carroll O’Connor, on March 28, 1974. O’Connor appeared in the original production of this play in 1958, which also starred Mostel. Both the earlier production and the current one were directed by Burgess Meredith.

Reminiscing with O’Connor, Mostel reminded him of the time he did a poetry reading at Carnegie Hall. “I read a particularly poignant poem of the ghetto, in Yiddish,” Mostel said. “I had everyone in tears. You were there and you started crying too. And you’re not even Jewish!”
