Clockwork Orange won the best picture and best director awards at the New York Film Critics Awards party on January 23, 1972, at Sardi’s. Malcolm McDowell, star of the film, and Anthony Burgess, writer, accepted the awards on behalf of Stanley Kubrick who was unable to come in from London.
